Alicia has worked in mental health settings since 2007 varying from outpatient clinics to an inpatient children’s psychiatric hospital, as well as providing intensive treatment for youth and families in crisis. She has been in private practice since 2014 and enjoys working with a variety of clients.
Alicia has experience working with children, youth, young- middle aged adults and families. She specializes in anxiety, trauma, depression, behavioral problems, attachment, and grief/loss.
She is a Child Mental Health Specialist, has national certification in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, has received training/consultation in CBT Plus, and is certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). She is an Approved Supervisor in WA State and has background providing supervision to professionals seeking licensure.
Alicia believes in ongoing growth and development as a person and therapist, and participates in consultation/trainings to strengthen her skill set. Her professional memberships include National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) and EMDR International Association (EMDRIA).
She finds it is useful to incorporate a strength-based approach as individuals are not defined by their past, but who they are in the moment. However, when childhood experiences, traumatic events, or negative beliefs about self are in the way of moving forward, she finds that addressing those in a supportive environment can bring a sense of freedom.
Alicia feels it is a privilege to do this work, and very much enjoys witnessing people fight for healthier and happier lives. She wants her clients to get what they need out of the treatment process and to know they will receive quality care.
She is a preferred provider for the following insurance plans: US Family Health Plan, Premera, First Choice, & Kaiser Permanente.
She can be reached at 253-858-2224 ext 226, aliciasteckler@gmail.com or through her site as listed below.
