He has experience working in a variety of settings, including intensive marriage counseling, prison counseling, juvenile justice, school counseling, intensive family preservation therapy for CPS-referred families in crisis and private practice. Matthew is Level 4 Lifespan Integration trained, and has also been trained in Attachment-Focused Relationship Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness, and Trauma-Based Relational Intervention techniques. This combination results in a deep and effective approach to resolving a wide range of communication issues and personal struggle.
Matthew combines communication strategies, deep story work, evidence-based practices, and trauma-resolution strategies within a therapeutic setting that many clients have described as warm, safe, open, relaxed, and effective. He believes in the importance of doing his own counseling work while counseling others. His experiences in life, from successes to sufferings, inform an empathic approach to his clients.
Matthew became passionate about helping and working with people through his own experience of divorce. His pastor helped him through this difficult time with Christian peacemaking strategies while he was a drummer and bandleader at Disney in Orlando, FL. He learned how to apply these principles in an often emotionally volatile environment of musicians and artists, from a variety of backgrounds, beliefs, political angles, and cultural roots.
Matthew is driven towards working with people who have experienced the traumatic impacts that can result when power is abused, be it in workplace settings, the church, or the public sphere. He enjoys helping people to gain deeper insight into themselves and others through a healing approach to past wounds and trauma that can free them from the prison of the past and open them up to living their fullest potential, personally and relationally.
Matthew is passionate about helping his clients work though whatever struggles they may be experiencing, using a safe, effective, and thorough approach that combines the best of what deep wisdom and therapeutic science has to offer.
